Skedco Product Training in Japan
In December of 2000 Skedco conducted product training at Camp Zama Army and Yokosuka Navy bases in Japan. We were quite pleased with the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn on the part of the Japanese firefighters at these two bases. We were quite impressed with how quickly they were able to grasp the concepts and techniques used with the Sked, Oregon Spine Splint (OSS II) and other Skedco products. At Yokosuka Navy Base for Chief Dan Marshall and at Camp Zama Army post for Chief Rivera, we concentrated on immobilization, patient packaging and extrication from confined spaces. Below are a few shots of students in action at Camp Zama.
Picture 1-4 using Sked, Oregon Spine Splint (OSS), Sked-Evac Tripod and Roco Victim harness in confined spaces. Pictures 5-6 using the HMD (Mass Casualty, Haz-Mat Decontaminable) Sked for mass casualty evacuation. The firefighter in picture no. 5 packaged 24 people in 10 minutes. They were dragged to safety by personnel at decon using 2 HMD Skeds in a shuttle system, utilizing ropes attached to both ends of both Skeds.

At Yokosuka Navy Base for Chief Dan Marshall Assistant we concentrated on review of immobilization, patient packaging and rope rescue. Once again the Japanese were able to grasp the techniques immediately. This made my job very easy and enjoyable.
While at Yokosuka we also got a demonstration of the propane aircraft fire trainer. "Wow". What a system. My thanks for a great time and enthusiasm on the part of all involved. Pictures 1-4, rope rescue training using Sked & OSS. Pictures 5-6, Propane trainer for aircraft fire fighting. It resembles a DC-10 when fully deployed. Thanks also to Joe Marcello, Assistant Chief at Yokohoma station #5 for seeing to all of our needs while we were there.
